I presently own a 2009 version of the 40c and it’s a great handgun. I like the steel mags, I like the steel Novak sights, I like the way it disassembles (safe), I like the mix of hardened stainless steel parts mixed with high tech polymer (the polymer is stiffer than Glock–more like HK). The 40c is not as compact or a light as the Glock 27. The 40c weighs 1.9ozs more and is 1/4” longer in the barrel and in the grip area–but the 40c handles recoil much better, and seems more accurate in my hands, which could make a real difference in a tactical situation. The 40c is a good compromise between the Glock 23 & 27, the 40c holds 11 and the 27 holds 10. The two styles of mags, 3 interchangeable grip styles, and the interchangeable mag release are a huge advantage (the 40c fits my hand like nothing else, the mag release will make lefties very happy)–and its made in the USA (which is why I gave the 40c another turn). Smith & Wesson has taken the “Glock” to the next logical step–if you are looking to replace a duty of off-duty weapon consider the 40c. By the way a 50,000 round torture test was just accomplished (4/2009)—so it’s tough too.

I feel the 40c Smith & Wesson is an excellent handgun. I purchased mine used with only about 200 rounds through it. Very accurate and comfortable. Would definitely buy another Smith&Wesson.

I just purchased my 40c and have been very happy with it so far, good weight, great caliber and I like the improvements they made on Glocks design. Very impressed
(ps. The picture above is of a 9c not a 40)

The only real difference to the 9c and 40c are the barrel sizes and mags. The frame is basically the same otherwise. Except the inscribed “9c.”

I would advise people to check state laws. With the exception of the holster built into the glove compartment, and the photo hidden in the center console, your looking at a felony arrest in the state of Ohio.

Hey Michael, thank you for your comment. Just like with any normal conceal carry holster, when you use your firearm with a vehicle mount holster take care to understand the laws in your area. This really goes for firearms, with or without holsters. Gun holsters just make the firearms safer.

I own a 40c. Overall, it’s a fantastic choice; it’s small enough to conceal, carries enough rounds to handle whatever comes up (vs a 5 shot .22 pocket revolver), and the recoil isn’t too bad if you brace properly.
On the down side, the front sight tried to fall off when the barrel got hot during regular target practice about four months after I bought it. Easily fixed by a gunsmith. Also, if you fire it much, the base of your dominant hand’s thumb will hate you the next couple of days until you get used to it. If you don’t use it for a while, you’re back to square one. I’ve had some minor problems, but most of them are easily attributed to wear. That hard polymer is still plastic, and warped just slightly when it got hot the first time, but it’s not enough to cause problems.
Like any firearm, it has its quirks. I’m still happy with my choice.

I have carried a full size M&P .40 for work for the past year and a half and just 2 weeks ago got a .40c for off duty concealed carry and I gotta say I love it, it’s very accurate with a good trigger pull. I even was able to trim about 3/4 of an inch off my Blackhawk CC Serpa, making it even more comfortable, only gripe I have isn’t with the gun itself but trying to find a holster that will accept the gun when I have my Micro90 light attached to it
